Lakers are an embarrassment

The Los Angeles Lakers have seven games left in the 2015-16 National Basketball Association season, but there is nor reason to play those games out.

Hell, after all the nonsense of this week, the Lakers should forfeit and save their fans any more embarrassment at least until October rolls around. Los Angeles has been front and center in the basketball world despite the Final Four being upon us and the Golden State Warriors trying for the best single-season record of all-time.

Why? Because Nick Young and D’Angelo Russell are idiots.

Young was videotaped on Russell’s phone, yapping about how he has other women other than his very famous fiance, Iggy Azalea. Of course, Russell’s footage of this (here’s the first question: why was Russell taping this in the first place?) somehow got leaked, with some reporting that it was Nicki Manaj, a performer who has issues with Azalea.

Frankly, the entire thing is a sad mess of people who are supposed to be adults acting like kids in preschool. For their parts in this whole thing, Young is a 30-year-old grown man. Manaj is a 33-year-old woman. Russell is the only true kid in the bunch, checking in at a robust 20 years old.

Yes, Russell should have known better but the clowns booing him in the Staples Center on Wednesday night should all be checked for brain waves. Russell is a young man still trying to figure it out. Young is a middle-aged man who is actually bragging that he is cheating on his woman. He is the one who should be booed walking down the street, let alone when he is playing his particularly horrid brand of basketball.

Forget about all the guy code crap. Young is a lousy boyfriend at best and was about to be a horrendous husband. People should give Russell a standing ovation every time he steps onto the court.

From a basketball standpoint, the Lakers are a complete mess. This franchise has never been this bad, ready to claim the worst record in the Western Conference. Los Angeles is 16-59 and has nothing but woeful outlooks with a team that has no real talent outside of Jordan Clarkson and Russell.

The front office would be wise to move on from as many of these current players as possible over the next four months and start retooling. Perhaps the NBA smiles on the Lakers and they land the top-overall pick and draft either Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram. Hell, a top-two pick would work just fine.

Ultimately, this has been a total disaster for the purple and gold, and this Russell-Young saga just encapsulates it perfectly. At least for fans of this train wreck, the time to shut the television off is rapidly approaching.
