LeBron James Set to Miss Three More Games

LeBron James is currently experiencing something he hasn’t experienced before – an extended injury spell.

After being injured during the Lakers win over Golden State on Christmas, LeBron James hasn’t played since. In total, he has missed 8 games with his strained groin.

A Thursday update from the Lakers said that LeBron James will participate in more basketball activities this week. However, it came with the caveat that he will be reassessed on January 16.

This suggests that he will also sit out the next three games, taking his total number of misses game this year to 11. He has never missed more than 13 games in any of his 15 NBA seasons. As well as that, he has never been out for more than 2 full weeks.

James has historically played through the pain barrier throughout his career. Last season, he played in all 82 Cleveland Cavaliers games. As well as that, he led the NBA in regular and postseason minutes played. LeBron has never missed the playoffs in his whole career.

However, he is 34 years old now and some caution from him and the Lakers is understandable. They will need him at his best for the playoffs, should they make them. After all, the playoffs are the reason they signed him in the first place. It has been a franchise-longest 5 years since the Lakers appeared in the playoffs

Despite his current woes, there was no sign of LeBron slowing down at the beginning of the season.

After beating Detroit on Wednesday, the 23 – 19 Lakers are in eighth place in the Western Conference. The Lakers are 3 – 5 without the NBA’s sixth leading scorer. They have a chance to further improve that record against the Utah Jazz on Friday.
