Marcus Mariota Expected To Miss Titans Training Camp
Any idea given to Marcus Mariota being able to take part in organized team activities or minicamps can pretty much be thrown out the window. Now, almost two months after his 2016 season came to an end following a serious leg injury, it looks like the Tennessee Titans’ franchise quarterback will be held out until training camp.
“Mike Mularkey says he texted with Marcus Mariota last night and saw video of him on a pool treadmill. Quarterback’s recovery is on schedule. Team plans to be “very cautious†and likely hold him out until camp,†ESPN’s Paul Kuharsky noted on Wednesday.
It’s not a surprise that Super Mario would miss the early portion of the off-season schedule. He did suffer a fractured fibula and isn’t even two months into his rehab. The fact that Tennessee is already proclaiming its franchise quarterback likely out until late summer surely does suggest the team is being cautious, as Mularkey said there.
Mariota is coming off a sophomore season that saw him tally nearly 3,800 total yards with 28 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. Making sure he is 100 percent before he takes to the field again is probably a good idea.
Also important to note, Tennessee has its offensive coaching staff returning. That means Mariota won’t be missing out on learning a new scheme while being sidelined.
