Marion Having Tests on Hip, Nets Agree to Terms with Robinson

Shawn Marion a forward with the Cleveland Cavaliers did not travel to Detroit with his team, as he underwent an MRI due to an injured hip.

Marion, who is 36, and plans to retire following this season, has been trying to play through a strained hip the past several weeks. Following Cleveland’s win in New York on Sunday, Marion left the team to return to Cleveland for his MRI while the team went on to Detroit.

Marion had tests on Monday while his teammates prepared for their Tuesday night game against the Pistons. Playing time for Marion has dwindled over the past few weeks due in part to his injury. Marion, who has played in four All-Star games, started this season in the Cavaliers starting lineup, but with the addition of Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith his minutes have been cut.

Marion’s scoring average of 4.9 points per game is the lowest of his career and he is playing just 20 minutes a game. Although Marion has not been a big contributor, he has been praised for his leadership by Cleveland head coach David Blatt.

The Brooklyn Nets agreed terms with Thomas Robinson a former NBA lottery pick to a contract of 10 days, said sources close to the NBA franchise on Monday. The power forward, who is just 23, confirmed the same on his Twitter account.

The deal has not been made official as of yet because Robinson must first clear waivers, which he is expected to do. The Denver Nuggets waived Robinson after he was acquired in the trade that sent Arron Affalo to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Robinson, who is 6-foot-10 was coveted by the Nets during the 2012 NBA Draft. The Nets, in fact, put a top three protection on their first rounder in 2012, which they then sent to Portland to acquire Gerald Wallace.

However, the bouncing balls did not settle in their favor and Portland got that pick which dropped to No. 6 and drafted Damian Lillard.

Robinson was taken one spot before Portland at No. 5 by the Sacramento Kings. However, he has not lived up to the potential most thought he had since being drafted. Nevertheless, he is still very young at 23 and the move by Brooklyn is a low risk one due to his age and upside potential. In his 173 career NBA games, Robinson has an average of 4.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
