Melvin Gordon Says L.A. Chargers ‘On A Break’ With San Diego Fans

The San Diego Chargers are now the Los Angeles Chargers. Although it is a move which will improve the value of the franchise while also giving the team the opportunity to share a brand new stadium with the Los Angeles Rams in Inglewood, fans of the team aren’t happy and have had no problem showing it.

Fans of the Chargers in San Diego have lashed out incessantly since the move to Los Angeles was announced a few weeks ago. Burning jerseys and blaming owner Dean Spanos have now become normal for the San Diego faithful, but enough though there’s seemingly an exodus, running back Melvin Gordon claims it won’t last, via ESPN’s James Walker:

“I don’t think we’re going to lose everyone in San Diego,” Gordon told ESPN on Friday. “I really don’t think of it like that. I just think of it as we’re on a break — like a relationship. You know? But she’ll be back and we will be back. We will be back together. That’s how I look at it.”

The 2017 NFL season will be an interesting one, to say the least for this Chargers franchise. Gordon and company will begin playing in Los Angeles next season at the StubHub Center in Carson which will be their home for two years before joining the Rams in Inglewood.

With Chargers fans clearly not happy, it’ll be interesting to see how fans react and support the team throughout next season. Another interesting tidbit will be the future of quarterback Philip Rivers who has been rumored to be open to being traded elsewhere.
