Memphis Grizzlies Smash NBA Winning Margin Record

The Memphis Grizzlies smashed records for points in a game, biggest margin of victory and shooting on Thursday night.

Their 152-67 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder is the biggest margin of victory in NBA history. The previous record was set by the Cleveland Cavaliers, who beat the Miami Heat 149-80 on Dec 17, 1991.

At one point, the Memphis Grizzlies were ahead by as many as 78 points, the largest lead held in a game since 1996. As well as that, they set a Memphis Grizzlies franchise record for the most points scored in a game.

They also set a record for shooting, making 62.5% of their shots.

What makes it all the more impressive is that Memphis was without it’s best player in Ja Morant. In his wake, the Grizzlies used 12 players with nine of them reaching double figures.

Jaren Jackson Jr. lead the team with 27 points along with D’Anthony Melton (19), Santi Aldama (18), John Konchar (17). It was Konchar who got the dunk to break the franchise record for points in a game.

“At that moment, I didn’t know it was a franchise record,” Konchar said. “I just kind of saw the lane, and I dunked it. But it’s awesome.”

“Man, it feels great. It feels great to be in the history books, especially in front of our home crowd,” Melton said. “And we did it one through 15. Everybody contributed, everybody played hard and we all got to get in the game. So, it’s always a blessing.

“We knew with [Morant] going down what we had to do. We had to step up.”

“Franchise records are obviously great. Obviously proud of our guys that they don’t think about that,” Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins said. “We’re just motivated by what are our standards every single night. Tonight was on pretty full display both offensively and defensively.”
