Mercer Vs. Tennessee Preview
Two unlikely teams are on a collision course this afternoon.
Mercer upset Duke just a couple days ago to make it to this game. Â Meanwhile, the Vols are making a deep NCAA tournament run despite never cracking the AP Top 25 until the end of the season.
Mercer did not just upset Duke, but they also upset a lot of people by busting their brackets. Â Mercer controlled the final minutes of the the against Duke. They pulled ahead and never let the big names on the Duke squad get their team back in it.
The Vols are the 11th seed in the tournament. Â UT managed to defeat Iowa and then picked up an upset of their own over the No. 6 Massachusetts.
Five of the top six scorers and Mercer’s starters are seniors. Â They are a very experienced squad. Â They are led by guard Langston Hall. He averages 14.6 points a game. Â Center Daniel Coursey is also looked at as a leader. Â He averages around 10 points a game. Â Senior forward Jakob Gollon led the way against Duke with 20 points. It goes to show that Mercer has a lot o players than can step up. when they need to.
The Volunteers showed they have a lot of heart when they rallied to beat Iowa in the first round. They then took control early and up set Massachusetts 86-67. Â UT has two strong players in the post who can put up a lot of points. Â They are going to be hard for Mercer to slow down let alone stop.
The Vols are big favorites to win this one with a -8 point spread. The game starts at 5 p.m. ET. Â You can watch on TNT.
