Miami Heat Remain ‘Front-Runners’ To Sign Free Agent Goran Dragic
The upcoming NBA free agent market will be filled with potential game-changing frontcourt players. LaMarcus Aldridge, Greg Monroe, Marc Gasol, Kevin Love (player option), and DeAndre Jordan will all become available as of July 1. Although frontcourt players will be the most attractive on the open market, there are a few point guards that will draw interest.
Goran Dragic is currently at the top of the list of point guards set to hit the free agent market, but the Slovenian might not be going anywhere, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald:
We’re told Dragic very much likes Spoelstra and Riley and nothing to this point has changed regarding the Heat’s status as front-runners to keep him. The Lakers, Knicks, New Orleans, Milwaukee, Sacramento are all expected to have interest.
Before Dragic was traded to the Heat before the NBA trade deadline, the veteran guard let it be known there’s only a few teams he wanted to play for. The Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, and Heat were at the top of his list of preferred destinations.
Although the Heat remain his top choice moving forward, the Lakers and Knicks will definitely try to make a play for him once he’s officially an unrestricted free agent in July. Miami will more than likely end up retaining Dragic long-term, but nothing is set in stone at this point in time with Los Angeles and New York potentially still being an intriguing option for the free-agent-to-be.
