Michigan State Spartans vs. Texas Longhorns Betting Preview
The No. 5-ranked Michigan State Spartans will take on the 10-1 though unranked Texas Longhorns this weekend. The Spartans have been ravaged by injuries lately, and coach Tom Izzo isn’t sure who he’s going to play against Texas.
“I have no clue. And you know what? I’m done worrying about it,” Izzo said. “I’ve spent about a week now worrying about these different things that I can’t control. I’m going to go down there with whatever guys are ready that can play, and then we’re going to play.”
The Longhorns underperformed badly last season, finishing the year 16-18. However, they have already reached 10 wins, and could enter the conversation as a national contender with a win over the Spartans on Saturday.
“I said we’re not going to be taken seriously until we do something that we’re not supposed to do, and I said you’ve got a chance this week and it starts here,” Texas coach Rick Barnes said. “We’ve always in the past had a group of guys who would go in hard arenas to play and expect to win, and we haven’t had that the past couple of years. For this group to do this, it’s going to be something that they should feel really good about.”
Texas is indeed one of the most surprising teams in the Big 12 this season. They were projected to finish last in the conference before the season tipped off, though after a big win over North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Wednesday, they’re confident they can make waves on a national stage this year.
“I really don’t look at rankings — I really don’t — but I said to our coaches, ‘I bet we don’t even have a vote.’ And I actually showed them,” Barnes said. “I had one of the guys get it, and sure enough we didn’t even have a vote.”
