Mike Moustakas to Re-Sign with Milwaukee Brewers

Third baseman Mike Moustakas will return to play for the Milwaukee Brewers. The free agent third baseman has agreed to a $10 million one-year deal. As well as that, the Brewers have agreed to a mutual option for a second year.

Moustakas last season batted .251 with 28 home runs and 95 RBIs over 152 games with both the Kansas City Royals and Milwaukee. He hit .256 with eight home runs and 33 RBIs with Milwaukee after being traded by the Royals July 27.

The veteran third baseman quickly became popular with teammates and fans alike in Milwaukee. He and the team were one win from reaching the World Series. His solid defense at third base and his left-handed power at the plate were key to the Brewers winning the NL Division Series.

While with the Royals, Moustakas was an instrumental part of the team that reached the World Series on two occasions. That included winning the Fall Classic in 2015.

In the NLDS in 2018, Moustakas batted .364 for the Brewers in a three-game sweep over the Colorado Rockies. He hit the game-ending single with two-out that knocked in the winning run during the 10th inning of Game 1. He also hit a single that knocked in a run in Game 2 during the eighth inning helping break open a game that the Brewers had led 1-0.

Mike Moustakas set the Kansas City team home run record during 2-1 with 38. As a result, he was named the Comeback Player of the Year for the American League. Following that season he filed for free agency but did not receive the mega-contract he and agent Scott Boras anticipated. He then re-signed with the Royals for $6.5 million for one year.

In October, following the end of the 2018 season after the Brewers were eliminated by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, Moustakas called the last year interesting but was pleased with how things turned out.

Milwaukee teammates and fans are pleased as well knowing Mike Moustakas will be wearing a Brewers uniform again in 2019.
