National League World Series Futures

The Major League Baseball season is about at the one quarter mark. Now would be a good time to check the futures now that we have a good sampling of games to go by. Let’s check the National League odds according to TopBet:

San Francisco Giants +1000– For a team that has won two of the last three and looks to be every bit as strong this year, those are nice odds. They currently lead the N.L. West with a 23-15 record.

Washington Nationals +1000-  The Nats have a good team, but with a struggling Steven Strasburg and now Bryce Harper may be a bit banged up, we don’t see them as being equal to the Giants. The Nats are 21-17 in second place in the N. L. East.

Atlanta Braves +550– The Giants just got through walloping the Braves three out of four this past weekend by scores of 8-2, 10-1 and 5-1. So you be the judge. The Braves are 22-16 and lead the N. L. East.

St. Louis Cardinals +1000– Those seem like good odds for the Red Birds. We know they will battle once the post season begins down to the final out. Still seems like the Giants should be favored over them after last year though. The Cards are 24-13 and lead the N. L. Central.

Cincinnati Reds +1000– The Reds are another good team, but probably should not have the same odds as the Giants. They are 22-16 and in second place in the N. L. Central.

Arizona Diamondbacks +2500– The D-Backs are 21-18 and in second place in the N. L. West. Considering they are in the top two in their division and only a half game out in the N. L. Wild card, those are nice odds.

Pittsburgh Pirates +3000– The Pirates are 21-17, tied for the N.L. Wild Card and only 3.5 games out in the N. L. Central. But the Pirates have done this the last two seasons and then tanked after the All- Star Break. Don’t trust them.

Philadelphia Phillies +5000– The Phillies are struggling. But they are talented and experienced. If they can Roy Halladay back for the stretch run they could slip into the playoffs. Once they are in, they could be a tough out. We would bet on them before the Pirates or Diamondbacks. The Phils are 18-21 and in third place in the N.L. East.

Colorado Rockies +4000– The Rockies have Troy Tulowitzki who might be the best player in the National League. If he stays healthy all year the Rockies could be a dangerous team. Remember 2007. They are 20-18 and in third place in the N. L. West.

So for our money, we would probably bet on the Giants, Phillies and Cardinals, possibly also the Rockies and D-Backs. The Phillies could be that big pay day, the Giants are likely to keep us in the running all year as would the Cards.
