Montee Ball Expected To Sign With Colts
One of the NFL’s best remaining prospects in free agency could soon be unemployed no longer.
There is heavy speculation that former Denver Broncos running back Montee Ball will sign with the Indianapolis Colts at “some point soonâ€, according to a tweet by Denver sports reporter Will Petersen.
Still only 24, Ball was unlucky enough to be the odd man out in the Broncos’ talented rushing corps during the preseason.
He was beaten out by C.J. Anderson, Ronnie Hillman and Juwan Thompson for a roster spot, leaving him out of work for the NFL’s opening weekend.
Ball enjoyed a fair rookie campaign in 2013, rushing for 559 yards on 120 carries, including 4 touchdowns. His sophomore season was severely hampered by an early-season groin injury that kept him on injured reserve for most of the year.
He started only 5 games and averaged a touch above 3 yards per carry, before an impactless preseason force the Broncos to cut him.
The Colts, however, could really use the services of a young running back.
Their 32-year-old starter, Frank Gore, is certainly not the long-term solution, while rookie tailbacks Josh Robinson and Tyler Varga – taken in the sixth round and undrafted respectively – don’t exactly strike fear in the hearts of their opposition.
