NBA Draft News: T’Wolves Settle On Karl-Anthony Towns With No. 1 Pick
Most of the speculation surrounding players in the 2015 NBA Draft has been about Jahlil Okafor (Duke), D’Angelo Russell (Ohio State) and Emmanuel Mudiay (China). All three of these players have been praised as potential stars on the NBA level, but their draft position isn’t set in stone even with only a few hours to go before draft gets underway.
Although Okafor, Russell, and Mudiay still don’t know which team they’ll be playing for, Kentucky’s Karl-Anthony Towns can’t say the same. According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Minnesota Timberwolves are convinced that Towns is their guy with the top pick in the draft, via RealGM.com:
The Minnesota Timberwolves have settled on Karl-Anthony Towns, according to Brian Windhorst.
The Wolves have long been expected to select Towns with the first overall pick and they’ve made their decision.
The Wolves were also believed to be very high on Jahlil Okafor.
With Flip Saunders supposedly a big fan of Okafor, many believed Timberwolves would go with the Duke product on draft day. A lot of rumors began to circulate about Towns potentially falling to the Los Angeles with the second overall pick, but now that doesn’t appear to be the case with the Timberwolves set on bringing in the Kentucky star.
As for the Lakers, the speculation continues to grow with the storied franchise taking the Okafor or Ohio State’s D’Angelo Russell. Although Okafor appears to be the obvious choice for Los Angeles, Russell going to the Lakers is beginning to gain steam and the former Buckeye may be wearing purple and gold next season.
