NBA Draft Prospect Markelle Fultz: ‘I Want To Be The No. 1 Pick Really Bad’

The 2017 NBA Draft is only a few weeks away with the best basketball players coming out of college set to learn their fate on June 22. One player that will likely hear his name called first by NBA commissioner Adam Silver is Markelle Fultz out of Washington.

Along with being the consensus top prospect in the upcoming draft, it appears Fultz has always wanted to be a member of the iconic Boston Celtics and has been in contact with the team that may draft him next month, via ESPN’s Jeff Goodman:

“I’ve talked to Danny a few times, and they want to get me to come out there for a visit,” Fultz told ESPN. “They just want to get a chance to know me better as a person.”

“I want to be the No. 1 pick really bad,” Fultz added. “It’s been a dream of mine since I was a little kid, and I feel like I would fit well in Boston.”

At this point, Fultz wearing Celtics green seems to be a foregone conclusion. He wants to play in Boston, and the team appears to be leaning toward taking him with the top pick on June 22.

Although Fultz and Boston seem to be an inevitable pairing, anything can happen between now and draft day next month. UCLA’s Lonzo Ball is expected to be taken first or second in the draft but has already refused to work out for the Celtics with his sights set on playing for the Los Angeles Lakers who’ll be drafting at No. 2.

Along with Fultz and Ball, who are without a doubt the top two prospects in the draft, there are a few other players that could make some noise in the weeks leading up to draft day. Jayson Tatum (Duke), De’Aaron Fox (Kentucky), and Josh Jackson (Kansas) may rise up the draft board.
