The San Antonio Spurs seem to be immune to aging. Head coach Gregg Popovich has done an unbelievable job for making the best of what he’s been given with his roster over the years. Multiple players on San Antonio’s roster are surrounding by retirement talk every single year with Tim Duncan at the forefront.

Despite Duncan constantly being asked when he’ll call it a career, the five-time NBA champion has continued play at an extremely high level during his 18 seasons in the league. Duncan won’t ride off into the sunset just yet with the veteran forward agreeing to return to the Spurs for at least one more season, according to ESPN:

Tim Duncan confirmed Thursday he’ll return for a 19th season with the San Antonio Spurs to chase his sixth NBA championship ring.

“Finally had a chance to talk with [Spurs coach Gregg Popovich],” Duncan told the San Antonio Express-News on Thursday. “I’ll be on the court next year.”

One of the main reasons Duncan may be returning to San Antonio for an 18th season is the prospect of potentially playing alongside LaMarcus Aldridge. The Spurs are considered the favorites to sign Aldridge this summer with the Texas native liking what the team is selling.

Along with Aldridge potentially signing with the Spurs in NBA free agency, San Antonio remains relatively intact with the team re-signing Danny Green and planning on doing the same with Manu Ginobili.

Regardless of whether Aldridge does sign with the team, San Antonio will remain competitive with Duncan in the paint and Popovich calling the shots from the sidelines.
