It’s buyout season in the NBA with quite a few notable players becoming free agents as teams prepare for a run at the playoffs. Joe Johnson is the most recent big-name to hit the free-agent market with the veteran guard being bought out by the Brooklyn Nets paving the way for him to sign with the Miami Heat once he clears waivers.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, veteran point guard Ty Lawson may be the next big-name available on the open market. Lawson is reportedly working on a buyout with the Houston Rockets after a disappointing stint with the team:

The Houston Rockets and guard Ty Lawson are exploring a contract buyout, league sources told The Vertical.

During his time with the Denver Nuggets, Lawson was widely regarded as one of the best floor generals in the league. Lawson was never in the category of a Stephen Curry or Chris Paul, but definitely in the top tier and always among the leaders in assists per game.

Unfortunately, things haven’t taken a turn for the worst for Lawson. The 28-year-old veteran hasn’t been a good fit for the Rockets since being traded to the team back in July with James Harden and Lawson struggling to coexist in the backcourt.

Although Lawson hasn’t put up the kind of numbers the Rockets were hoping for in Houston, the veteran guard likely won’t be unemployed for long. Once or if Lawson hits the open market, contenders may come calling in an attempt to add some depth to their backcourts.
