NBA Rookie Of The Year Odds Update

With some preseason games under their belts, NBA rookies have seen some court time and the books are adjusting accordingly.

Jabari Parker still tops the list as the player with the best odds to take the ROY award. Parker has met expectations and will likely receive a lot of playtime as the young team plans to build around him.

Wiggins has the second best odds to win ROY according to the sports books.

Thus far in the short term, Wiggins has been excellent. He has scored a combined 29 points in his first couple preseason games and has been using his size to put the ball in the basket and get himself to the free throw line. He has also shown that he can be dangerous from downtown, hitting 3-3 from the arc over two preseason games.

Wiggins is not without his faults, though, and looks like he will need more time to develop than Parker.

A name that wasn’t on the top of the odds has clawed its way to the forefront. Nerlens Noel was impressive during the summer league, but it is over the last two preseason games that he has really show his potential but scoring 22 points, grabbing 20 rebounds, passing for six assists, blocking four shots and recording four steals.

Noel is more of a defensive machine, though, and ROY players aren’t often awarded for defensive prowess, rather scoring take precedent.

Julius Randle is still holding onto the fourth best odds at getting ROY in the NBA, but he has shown early on that he is going to need time to grow. Randle, an early favorite for the award,  is just 11-of-28 on shooting. He has also given the ball away three times over three preseason games.
