NBA Rumors: Carmelo Anthony To The Boston Celtics?
The New York Knicks seem determined to trade superstar forward Carmelo Anthony during the NBA offseason. Team president Phil Jackson has had enough and openly admitted that Anthony would be better off playing elsewhere.
With Anthony and the Knicks seemingly headed for a parting of the ways, the veteran forward could be ended up playing in the same division. The Boston Celtics could be Anthony’s next team with the storied franchise having the assets to get a deal done and already having engaged the Knicks once on a deal for the All-Star.
According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Celtics, who are struggling mightily in the playoffs right now, could go for Anthony this summer:
With the top-seeded Celtics possibly on their way to getting swept by the eighth-seeded Bulls, Ainge’s thoughts on adding Anthony could change this July.
One thing that is being exposed in the Celtics’ playoff run is the lack of another option outside of All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas. Veteran forward Al Horford is a solid option in the frontcourt, but another star is needed, especially one that can create his own shot.
Anthony fits the bill for the Celtics if they want to go that route. The only problem is Boston could also try to go after Jimmy Butler of the Chicago Bulls or Indiana Pacers star Paul George. Both players are rumored to be available once the season comes to an end for Chicago and Indiana, and it’ll be hard to find another team that can offer as much as the Celtics in a deal in the offseason.
Another option for Anthony and the Knicks is the Los Angeles Clippers. Doc Rivers and company may want to roll the dice on bringing in another scorer to join Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan.
