NBA Rumors: Chris Paul Plans To Talk To Spurs, Rockets, And Nuggets In Free Agency

The Los Angeles Clippers may have their work cut out for them to re-sign veteran point guard Chris Paul this summer. The nine-time NBA All-Star will have his fair share of suitors in free agency come July 1, and he will consider a few of them.

According to Broderick Turner of the L.A. Times,

The Clippers have recently become “nervous” about the reports that San Antonio will make a big push to get Paul and that the point guard has interest in talking to and possibly joining the Spurs, said one executive who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

Paul also has plans to talk with the Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets, one executive said.

Although the Clippers are the favorites to sign Paul in free agency, and for good reason considering they can offer $53 million more ($205 million) than any other team, the 32-year-old will weigh his options this summer.

Los Angeles has been a perennial playoff contender ever since Paul arrived in 2011, but the team has been unable to get over the hump with him leading the way while playing alongside fellow stars DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin. Team president, coach, and general manager, Doc Rivers, has maintained that the team wants to keep the squad together, but it may be out of his hands with these veterans potentially coming to the conclusion that they can’t win in Los Angeles.

At this point, the Rockets and Spurs seem to be in a much better situation to contend with the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference. Both teams may be a piece away from being in the mix to contend for a title in the West with Paul possibly being that player needed.
