It keeps getting worse and worse for Dwight Howard. As if the Houston Rockets’ current struggles aren’t bad enough, all the rumors of Howard’s potential departure heading toward the NBA trade deadline appear to be true.

Dwight wanted to be traded to the Milwaukee Bucks before last month’s deadline. Gus Johnson, former player and current Fox Sports play-by-play announcer, claims Howard told him about wanting to be traded to Milwaukee.

The trade didn’t happen because Dwight didn’t want to sign an extension beyond this season via Rob Perez’s Twitter account:

The Rockets, much like the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers before them, are a sinking ship with Howard ready to move on once again. Dwight continues to solidify his reputation as a player difficult to coexist with.

Although his skills are on the decline, and he clearly struggles to see eye-to-eye with star teammates or hands-on head coaches, the veteran center seems determined to hit the free-agent market for the second time. Howard has quickly gone from a superstar talent to a second-tier player and that’ll cost him as a free agent this summer with few teams willing to gamble on him.

With Howard’s real intentions surfacing well in advance once again, it will likely be another ugly divorce for the three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year. The Rockets are trying to stay in playoff contention moving forward, but might find it difficult with the sizable distraction of Howard’s future looming in Houston.
