NBA Rumors: Houston Rockets Targeting Top-Tier Players In Free Agency
The Houston Rockets, much like any playoff contender in the NBA right now, see the writing on the wall. The reigning NBA champion Golden State Warriors are currently constructed to win multiple championships over the next half-decade or so.
That being said, the Rockets are preparing to shake things up in NBA free agency this summer. Houston, which is coming off one of their best seasons in recent memory, will be swinging for the fences in free agency with some their sights set on some big-name players, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein:
Sources told ESPN on Wednesday that the Rockets have at least four top-tier free agents in their summer sights: Atlanta’s Paul Millsap, Toronto’s Kyle Lowry and the LA Clippers duo of Chris Paul and Blake Griffin.
At this point, there’s no telling what can or will happen once the horn sounds at the start of NBA free agency on July 1. There have been a lot of trade swirling with Jimmy Butler and Paul George mentioned as candidates for different teams while everyone around the league is seemingly gearing up to make star-studded squads in order to contend with the mighty Warriors of Oakland.
Although it may be a stretch for the Rockets to be able to land one or two of the names Stein mentioned, there is a chance it may be possible with every player mentioned considering a move this summer. If the Rockets can land one or two of these players, Houston could be Golden State’s toughest competition in the Western Conference for the foreseeable future.
