NBA Rumors: Knicks In The Mix To Sign Veteran Rajon Rondo
The NBA free agency market is starting to dry up with only a few notable names left without a team. One of those names is veteran point guard Rajon Rondo who has received interest from a few franchises around the league.
According to ESPN’s Ian Begley, the New York Knicks are one of those teams:
The Knicks have touched base with free agents Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo and Shelvin Mack. They were also in contact with George Hill and Darren Collison, but both guards signed elsewhere.
Earlier this week, it seemed like only a matter of time that Rondo would be playing alongside highly touted rookie Lonzo Ball. The Los Angeles Lakers and Rondo share a mutual interest, and Magic Johnson’s team could be the favorite to land the one-time NBA champion, but no deal has come to fruition.
The Lakers have shown interest in a few veterans this summer including George Hill, Dion Waiters, Jamal Crawford, and Rondo. It remains unclear whether it will be Rondo that ultimately inks a deal with the team.
As for the Knicks, who are in a similar situation in comparison to the Lakers, the team is looking for a mentor for incoming rookie Frank Ntilikina. Rondo obviously fits the bill and will likely be affordable while also providing a little bit of star power in New York.
Former NBA MVP Derrick Rose is still an option for the Knicks as their time together may not be over after only one season. Much like Rondo, Rose is gauging interest all over the league and continues to weigh his options.
