NBA Rumors: Kyrie Irving ‘Unlikely’ To Be Traded To The Knicks
The NBA offseason has been anything but dull. Along with star players like Gordon Hayward changing teams in NBA free agency, the trades and rumors of possible deals have been swirling around the league. The latest rumor involving superstar Kyrie Irving of the New York Knicks.
Irving isn’t happy with his situation in Cleveland. Although Irving won a title with the team and hasn’t played for another franchise, the elite point guard wants to move on with the New York Knicks named one of his preferred destinations.
Unfortunately for Irving, a trade involving the Cavs sending him to the Knicks doesn’t appear to be likely, according to ESPN’s Ian Begley:
Kyrie Irving informed the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this month that the New York Knicks were one of the teams he would be willing to join. But it seems unlikely at this point that Irving will land in New York.
Although New York may not be where Irving is ultimately headed, the Minnesota Timberwolves, one of his preferred destinations, might be a realistic possibility. The Timberwolves have been one of the most active teams during the offseason with Tom Thibodeau and company making drastic moves to improve their roster moving forward.
Minnesota has added Jeff Teague, Taj Gibson, Jamal Crawford, and most notably, Jimmy Butler to their roster. The Timberwolves have gone from a promising young team to a potential contender next season and the addition of Irving, depending on the trade package, could propel to a middle-of-the-pack or top-tier team in the Western Conference.
At this point, there’s no telling where Irving will land. Other teams, Irving has labeled as preferred destinations are the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat.
