NBA Rumors: Mavericks ‘Serious Contender’ To Sign Free Agent Derrick Rose

Veteran point guard Derrick Rose remains in limbo with the majority of big-name free agents having already agreed to sign with teams. Rose has some suitors in NBA free agency hoping to get their hands on the former NBA MVP, but it still remains to be seen where he’ll land when the dust settles.

It was reported earlier this week that Rose met with the Los Angeles Clippers. That opportunity may have passed him by with the team agreeing to terms with Serbian import Milos Teodosic. The backcourt is now crowded in Los Angeles leaving Rose to potentially look elsewhere.

According to Mark Berman of the New York Post, the Dallas Mavericks have emerged as a team interested in signing Rose:

The Mavericks already seem to have their point guard of the future in place with rookie Dennis Smith Jr. along with Yogi Ferrell making an impression last year, but Rose may provide some instant stability as a veteran the two young players can lean on.

At this point, it may be a question of money for Rose. It isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that he ends up back with the New York Knicks. Rose had a better season with the Knicks than what people believe as he averaged his highest points per game (18.0) since his last All-Star season with the Chicago Bulls back in 2011-12.

Although Rose isn’t the typical three-point threat that point guards are these days, he’s still a force to be reckoned with in the NBA, and that might be enough to get him another contract whether it be short-term or three or more years.
