NBA Rumors: Mavericks Targeting Free Agent Point Guard Jrue Holiday
The NBA offseason will officially kick into high gear on July 1 when NBA free agency gets underway, and teams can start courting players. One player that is expected to receive a lot of interest on the open market is point guard Jrue Holiday.
According to ESPN’s Ian Begley, Holiday will likely be receiving a call from the Dallas Mavericks once the buzzer sounds on July 1:
One team that’s interested in free agent point guard Jrue Holdiay? The Dallas Mavericks. League sources say members of the Mavericks organization view Holiday as a free agent target this summer. Holiday will likely command top dollar on the market and Dallas would probably have to clear some cap space to make Holiday a competitive offer.
Along with the Mavericks who are preparing for the end of the Dirk Nowitzki after next season, the New Pelicans, Holiday’s current team, could make a strong push for the point guard. New Orleans will continue to build around Anthony Davis and newcomer DeMarcus Cousins.
The New York Knicks might also show interest in adding Holiday with the team expected to move on from Derrick Rose after one season, via Begley:
New Orleans would also like to retain Holiday and can offer him more money than any other team. Some in the Knicks organization are fans of the 26-year-old, though it’s unclear just how strong that interest is from New York. The length and amount of Holiday’s contract would likely take New York out of the running.
It’ll be interesting to see what kind of market Holiday will get once officially a free agent in July. Stephen Curry and Chris Paul will also hit the free agent market this summer, but few believe they’ll leave their current teams of the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers.
