76ers GM Elton Brand believes Ben Simmons could be ‘close or ready’ to return

Before the 2019-20 season was indefinitely suspended due to concern over the coronavirus, there was some uncertainty around the Philadelphia 76ers.

Much of that concerned the health of All-Star point guard Ben Simmons, who was sidelined for several weeks due to a back injury. With the potential resume point of the 2019-20 season pushed back toward the summertime, 76ers general manager Elton Brand has voiced that Simmons could be back on the court if the campaign resumes, according to The Associated Press.

“We’ve took our time, we’ve been methodical and thoughtful about his recovery and rehab, just to make sure, because we weren’t in a rush,” 76ers GM Elton Brand said Tuesday. “It’s hard to speculate. He’s been working hard, and I know he’d be close or ready.”

The 76ers will continue to monitor the situation closely over the next several weeks as Simmons is dealing with an injury in a tough spot. There are still many hurdles that he must get through first before he can be eligible to return to the court.

He has yet to play 3-on-3 or 5-on-5 at this point during his rehab process. That will be one of the most significant marker points of the entire situation before he can be cleared to return.

There is still plenty of time for him to recover further and prove that he’s completely healed from the injury. Until then, the 76ers will have to keep a close eye on how rehab moves along over the next few weeks.
