76ers, Heat have ‘engaged’ Raptors on possible Kyle Lowry trade

The NBA trade deadline is about a day away. Toronto Raptors star guard Kyle Lowry is one of the biggest names available. Several title contenders have expressed interest in the one-time NBA champion, namely the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers.

There have been conflicting reports about the Raptors’ intentions with Lowry up to the trade deadline on March 25. The veteran point guard seemingly thinks he’s on the way and other reports state he’s staying put. However, it appears the Heat and 76ers are in the lead to land him if he’s ultimately traded, according to ESPN.

Philadelphia and Miami have engaged Toronto on Lowry, and league sources said there are several more teams in both the Eastern and Western Conferences giving Toronto president Masai Ujiri and general manager Bobby Webster reason to weigh the possibility of accepting a return of future assets instead of leaning on Lowry for one final playoff run.

Lowry isn’t getting any younger at 34 (35 tomorrow) and heading into the twilight of his NBA career. However, the six-time All-Star is still playing at a high level late in his career. He’s putting up solid numbers once again this season, averaging 17.6 points, 7.4 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game. Meanwhile he’s shooting 39.1 percent from beyond the arc and 43.8 percent from the floor.

It’ll be interesting to see where Kyle Lowry may ultimately land or if he’s even traded at this point. However, it does seem as if the writing is on the wall in Toronto as he’ll either get traded or leave the Raptors in free agency this summer.
