76ers’ Joel Embiid doesn’t know what else he has to do to win NBA MVP

Throughout much of the 2021-22 season, Philadelphia 76ers star big man Joel Embiid has sat atop of the MVP conversation.

However, the last few weeks have seen Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo make more compelling cases for the prestigious award.

Embiid responded with another strong game under his belt with a 44-point outing with 17 rebounds and five blocks in the win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

After the contest, Embiid voiced that he didn’t know what else he would need to do to earn the ward.

“If it happens, great,” Embiid said of winning his first MVP via ESPN. “If it doesn’t, I don’t know what I have to do. I’ll feel like they hate me. I feel like the standard for guys in Philly or for me is different than everyone else.”

Embiid has taken another step forward in his progression as one of the game’s best players. Before James Harden’s arrival he has carried the 76ers toward one of the best records in the Eastern Conference.

Embiid is coming off his 11th game this season with at least 40 points and 10 rebounds. Only Russell Westbrook (12) and Moses Malone (12) posted more in a single campaign. Both players won the MVP award in their respective seasons.
