76ers’ Joel Embiid says he owns ‘a lot of real estate’ in Andre Drummond’s head

Over the years, 76ers big man Joel Embiid and Pistons center Andre Drummond have had something of a rivalry. On several occasions, verbal spats have boiled over on the court.

This was once again the case on Tuesday night. Andre Drummond drew a second technical and was ejected from the game in the fourth quarter. The incident occured after his hand brushed Embiid’s face after a made basket by Philadelphia. Following the game, the 76ers All-Star center stated that he believes has gotten inside the 25-year-old’s head, according to Michael Rothstein of ESPN.

“I think I own a lot of real estate in his head,” Embiid told reporters after the Sixers’ 133-132 loss to the Pistons. “We lost, so I’m not supposed to talk trash, but he knows damn well that he can’t guard me. But that was a team effort. You know, Blake [Griffin] had a good game, and they were able to pull it off, so we got another one tomorrow, and we got to do a better job.”

Although the 76ers lost the game in overtime, Embiid was able to ruffle Drummond’s feathers again. It happens seemingly every time these two teams take the floor against each other. There may have been a bit of exaggeration on the contact made that drew the second technical. However, it’s been something that Embiid had harped on.

He has simply taken advantage of every little opportunity to frustrate Drummond, and it has seemingly worked in each instance. It lies with the Pistons’ big man to resist the urge to respond in the nature that Embiid is hoping to get from him.

What this does is also set the table for more drama and attention toward the matchup between both teams next time around when they play on Nov. 3 in Philadelphia.
