76ers’ Paul George to miss multiple weeks with bone bruise
The Philadelphia 76ers were dealt another setback after star forward Paul George suffered a bone bruise in his left knee that will force him to miss at least two games.
The injury occurred in the second half of Wednesday’s loss to the Memphis Grizzles when he bumped his knee attempting to grab a rebound. It was the same knee that he hyperextended in the preseason, which led to him missing the first five games of the regular season.
It has been a struggle for George to find consistency when he has been on the court this season. He is averaging 14.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists while shooting 38.3 percent from the floor and 27 percent from beyond the arc.
George has just one 20-point performance in his first eight games with the 76ers while shooting below 40 percent from the floor all but twice.
“Listen, it’s certainly not easy,” Sixers coach Nick Nurse said after the Grizzlies game via ESPN. “Tyrese just getting back and didn’t really have a feel tonight, and Paul going out. Certainly not easy … but we didn’t put enough together again for 48.”
The 76ers will look to take a precautionary approach with George moving forward to avoid another setback. Philadelphia is already dealing with star big man Joel Embiid is still experiencing lingering swelling in his left knee while his mobility on the court remains an issue.
