76ers star Joel Embiid is confident Philly can win an NBA title
As the All-Star break nears, the Philadelphia 76ers are sitting near the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
The 76ers added to that momentum with an impressive 15-point comeback against defending league MVP Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets. After the contest, star big man Joel Embiid voiced that he believes Philadelphia is in a position to potentially make a run toward an NBA title.
“I think so,” said Embiid via ESPN. “You’ve got James Harden, obviously he’s been playing great basketball. You’ve got Tyrese Maxey, Tobias has been great, P.J. Tucker … we’ve got a group that fits with each other.
“We’ll find that out (for sure) in the postseason. But I think as far as the fit, you’ve got everything. Everybody fits with each other, we’ve got shooters, we’ve got defenders, and we’ve got James Harden. So I think we’ve got a good chance.”
The 76ers have remained steady throughout the 2022-23 campaign behind their core group. Embiid has been the guiding light with his league-best 33.8 points per contest. Meanwhile, Harden has embraced his secondary scorer position as the primary ball handler, averaging a double-double with 21.4 points and 11.2 assists per contest.

Philadelphia has shown that they have balance and depth, but the playoffs are certainly a different stage. Embiid and the 76ers have struggled to break through, which has routinely led to increased scrutiny due to the team’s inability to play consistently offensively beyond Embiid.
If Philadelphia hopes to make a deep playoff push, it needs to see the supporting cast be the game-changing factor.
