Adam Silver Addresses Potential NBA Rules Issue Involving LeBron James
Over the last several days, a prominent topic of discussion surrounding Philadelphia 76ers star forward LeBron James has been his use of a helicopter for his commute between New York and Philadelphia.
Following his signing with the 76ers, James decided to live in New York, a route several players on the team have taken before him, including Los Angeles Lakers head coach and former player JJ Redick during his tenure with the franchise.
The difference is that James has chosen to ride a helicopter to the team’s practice facility. Even with that being the case, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said during an interview on The Pat McAfee Show that he doesn’t see any issues with the decision by the four-time league MVP, despite the optics of his link to Fanatics.
“He has a deal with Fanatics,” Silver said via ESPN. “It’s perfectly appropriate if part of his deal is they’re going to supply a helicopter to him as long as it’s just a deal between the Fanatics and LeBron and no team is involved; there’s no rules issue there whatsoever.”
There have also been questions about the safety of using that mode of transportation, especially given the risks involved. James is entitled to his decision for the type of travel he chooses to take, but it’s one that has drawn plenty of scrutiny.

It doesn’t take too long to connect the dots to former Lakers great Kobe Bryant’s passing, which came after a fatal helicopter accident. Nonetheless, it doesn’t appear that James will change his decision on his mode of travel.
