Andre Drummond Reveals What He Believes He Can Bring to Knicks

Shortly after center Mitchell Robinson agreed to sign a three-year, $47.4 million deal to join the Boston Celtics, the New York Knicks landed his potential replacement by agreeing to a one-year, $3.9 million contract with Andre Drummond.

Drummond will likely step into a similar role to the one Robinson provided, with his rebounding and frontcourt depth.

He’s coming off averaging 6.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks in 19.5 minutes per game in 63 regular-season games. Although he has been relegated to a more diminished role off the bench, Drummond remains a highly efficient rebounder, which continues to provide him significant value despite his limitations offensively.

During a recent interview with media personality Mika Ortiz on X, Drummond said he believes he can provide a similar spark off the bench to the one Robinson brought to the Knicks.

“[Losing] Mitchell Robinson was a huge loss for them,” Drummond said via The New York Post. “I bring in a similar talent, similar energy, but I’m a veteran, I’ve been around for a long time. I know what it takes to win. Excited to be in a new role in a new city and going back to a place I’m familiar with.”

Drummond will likely serve as the primary backup to Karl-Anthony Towns, while his rebounding will bring much-needed stability to the defending NBA champions.

Beyond that, his contract is a low-risk, high-reward move that could help maintain the frontcourt depth and production necessary to push toward another NBA title.
