Bronny James limited pre-draft workout to only two teams

As the 2024 NBA draft inches closer, the focus has increased on prospect Bronny James as he prepares for the next step of his basketball career.

Much of which has been how he has maneuvered through the predraft process. According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, several teams around the league have had difficulty garnering a workout with the former USC product.

Bronny James has only held workouts with the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers. His agent, Rich Paul, confirmed this is being done by design.

“This is nothing new,” Paul said via ESPN. “The goal is to find a team that values your guy and try to push him to get there. It’s important to understand the context and realize that this has always been the strategy with many of my clients throughout the years, especially those in need of development like Bronny. My stuff is by design.”

The Lakers currently hold the 17th and 55th overall picks while the Suns possess only the 22nd overall selection.

James’s movement through the predraft process is aimed at helping him find the best fit rather than testing the waters with many teams around the league.

This strategy is one that Paul has taken with previous clients such as MarJon Beauchamp and Darius Garland.

“Bronny is the same as my previous clients,” Paul said. “I got the word out early to teams that if you plan on bringing Bronny in, here’s what you need to know: If you won’t give him a real deal, there’s nothing to talk about. It’s hard to get real development on a two-way deal.

“I don’t care about him going to the Lakers, or Phoenix, or about what number he gets picked. It’s about fit.”

Ultimately, it will be a wait-and-see how things unfold in the draft.
