Bucks newcomer Pau Gasol chasing another ring before he retires
The San Antonio Spurs are in the midst of making a playoff run in the stacked Western Conference heading into the final few weeks of the season.
However, this saw them part with veteran big man Pau Gasol after agreeing to a buyout on Friday. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Gasol didn’t take long to find a landing spot as he agreed to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks.
The San Antonio Spurs have bought out center Pau Gasol, clearing the way for the six-time All-Star to join the Milwaukee Bucks, league sources told ESPN.Players have to be waived by 11:59 p.m. ET Friday to become available for activation in the playoffs.
The addition of Gasol to the Bucks gives them another proven frontcourt player that has shown over his career that he can be a factor on the floor even in the latter stages of his career. He also brings championship experience and leadership that could be huge in helping the Bucks make a hard push to the playoffs.
This came shortly before the Bucks became the first team in the league to clinch a playoff spot as they beat the Los Angeles Lakers 131-120 on Friday night. It is a move that can only help Milwaukee in their push toward competing for an NBA title.
Gasol will assume a significant role off the bench that could see him play behind big man Brook Lopez at the center position while he has also shown that he can effectively play the forward position where his playmaking ability as a passer and scorer could be greatly utilized.
