Bulls star Coby White set to miss time

The Chicago Bulls will be without guard Coby White for at least two more weeks due to a calf injury. White didn’t suit up for any preseason action after hurting his calf during an offseason workout in August.

However, he has been able to return to practice, as last Saturday marked the first time he had participated since the start of training camp.

The Bulls are providing White with extended time off to get his conditioning right to play, which should give him the chance to hit the ground running once he returns.

Over the last couple of seasons, he has developed into one of the Bulls’ top scoring options. He’s coming off his best campaign, averaging a career-best 20.4 points along with 4.5 assists while shooting 45 percent from the floor and 37 percent from beyond the arc in 74 games played.

White is in the final year of his three-year, $36 million deal, which sets the table for a crucial 2025-26 campaign. He holds the opportunity to secure a massive, lucrative payday next summer.

In his absence, the Bulls will likely lean on big man Nikola Vucevic and guards Josh Giddey and Kevin Huerter to lead the charge offensively. Giddey inked a four-year, $100 million extension last month, securing his spot as a key piece to the long-term future.

Chicago will go with either Tre Jones or Ayo Dosunmu to start in his place. The Bulls are set to begin the season against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.
