Carmelo Anthony Makes Bold Claim About Knicks’ Contract Decisions

As the start of the 2026-27 season inches closer, the New York Knicks remain at a standstill with contract extension talks with big man Karl-Anthony Towns and guard Josh Hart.

Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony believes that the Knicks’ approach to halting the contract discussions is the right move.

“I think it’s happier times, I just think things just move so fast now that you get a chance to celebrate the championship, then it’s business as usual, right? Business has got to go on,” Anthony said via ESPN.

“I think it was big for them to stop the conversations, and just, we’ll get to that. We’ll get to that at the end of the season.”

It’s become crystal clear that the Knicks are not close to finding common ground with either Towns or Hart to secure them to lengthy new deals.

There is a mutual interest in keeping them in tow for the long haul to extend the team’s championship window, but it hasn’t translated yet into working out contracts.

Towns is currently eligible for a four-year, $276 million deal, while he is set to make $57 million this season and has a $61.1 million player option for the 2027-28 campaign.

Meanwhile, Hart is making $21 million this season, and the Knicks have a $22.4 million team option on him for next season. He has voiced frustration with the contract talks, but does understand that if a new deal isn’t reached, it could see him become a potential movable piece before the trade deadline next February.
