Cavaliers sign Kevin Love to lucrative four-year contract extension

The Cleveland Cavaliers saw the course of the franchise leave entirely this summer. All-Star forward LeBron James chose to ink a four-year, $153 million deal to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

With that in mind, Cleveland has decided to further commit to their remaining All-Star forward Kevin Love on a four-year, $120 million extension that runs through the 2022-23 season, according to Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

Forward Kevin Love was “very excited and obviously humbled” after signing a long-term extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday. Terms were not announced, but league sources told ESPN that the four-year, $120 million extension tops out his overall deal at five years, $145 million.

The decision to hand Love a lucrative extension now keeps him in place for the long haul. A solid move, as one of the centerpieces of the puzzle as likely the top scoring option. In his first four years with the Cavaliers, he has proven to be a valuable offensive asset. As well as that, he is one of the league’s best rebounder when healthy.

Kevin Love has picked up his game in each of the last two years, earning All-Star game selections. He is also coming off a productive campaign where he averaged 17.3 points on 45.8 percent shooting from the field. As welll as that, he had 41.5 percent from beyond the arc in 59 games played. In first 10 years in the league, he holds career averages of 18.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per contest.

This is a huge turnaround in commitment to the 29-year-old from the Cavaliers after he’s been involved in numerous trade rumors throughout his tenure. It is an opportunity for him to prove himself as being one of the top big men in the league that can continue to lead the franchise to success.
