Celtics Finally Fail to Comeback VS Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans secured a 116 – 113 overtime win against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night.

The game was defined by the expectation that Boston would comeback and win, as they have done often this season. Despite a 4th quarter rally, it wasn’t enough as the Celtics lost by 3.

It was the 18th game this season where Boston has found itself behind by double digits. They have won 9 games from such losing positions.

Their failure to come back against New Orleans was in part down to the performance of Pelicans forward Anthony Davis.

Davis scored 45 points and made 16 rebounds. He is a player in form right now, with two MVP-level performances behind him coming into the game.

New Orleans also won their last two games on the road in Boston and New York. In that time, Davis has scored 129 points and made 42 rebounds. In his last 4 games, he has scored at least 30 points. Davis is the second player this NBA season behind James Harden to play two consecutive 40 point games.

Conversely, Kyrie Irving struggled for Boston. He still led the Celtics with 27 points and seven rebounds. However, this performance was marked by key misses that could have helped his team get a result.

His shooting was poor on the night. He only made 8-of-24 field goals and was also responsible for 6 turnovers.

Despite scoring a layup with 11 seconds left to send the game to overtime, he missed a game-tying three in the final seconds.

“We can’t come back every game,” he said. “It’s as simple as that.”
