Celtics rumored to try to trade Kemba Walker in NBA offseason

The Boston Celtics are coming off a forgettable season. 2020 – 2021 was marred by injuries, the COVID-19 pandemic, and a serious lack of chemistry on the basketball floor. The Celtics were able to steal one game from the star-studded Brooklyn Nets in the NBA playoffs. However it didn’t prevent the start of an overhaul immediately after the team was bounced from the postseason.

Along with Brad Stevens replacing Danny Ainge as president of basketball operations, the rumor mill in Boston is already buzzing about a potential Kemba Walker trade during the offseason. Walker has struggled to stay healthy ever since joining the Celtics, and it appears the team may be ready to part ways, according to Brian Robb of Masslive.com.

Kemba Walker is one of the most overpaid players in the NBA and league sources expect the Celtics to explore moving him in a trade to help create some current and future salary flexibility and reduce what is currently set to be the highest tax bill in team history (if the team wants to re-sign Fournier for market value).

It’ll be interesting to see if Stevens can pull off a trading Walker in exchange for an upgrade or two. Walker’s contract will be hard to move, especially considering the veteran point guard’s injury history. As well as that, he wasn’t a game-changer for the Celtics.

Only time will tell how aggressive the Celtics are in moves they plan to make. As a result, we will see whether Stevens is up to the task in his first year.
