Chris Paul called it a ‘no-brainer’ to return to Clippers

After bouncing around the NBA over the last eight seasons, veteran point guard Chris Paul has returned to the LA Clippers for what could be his last season in the league.

Although it took some time for Paul to make his decision in NBA free agency after spending last season with the San Antonio Spurs, the 40-year-old admits it was a “no-brainer” to sign with the Clippers via Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

“It was a no-brainer,” Paul said. “If I’m really honest, I wanted to get back and play here by any means necessary.”

Despite all indications pointing to Paul playing his last season in the NBA, he’s leaving the door open to return after the 2025-26 campaign, potentially.

While the future Hall of Fame point guard did not commit to 2025-26 being his swan song — “I am approaching [the season] with a lot of excitement, not necessarily what’s next,” he said on stage in front of the fans, “I’m just trying to be in it” — he made clear how comfortable he is with the group he is joining.

Along with returning to the Clippers, where he’s had the most success in the league, the veteran guard will be playing on a stacked roster filled with savvy veterans like himself.

Paul raved about the additions the Clippers have made during the NBA offseason and is looking forward to what they can accomplish next season.

“I’m just so excited about the moves that the team has made this offseason,” Paul said. “Brad coming to the team, Brook Lopez, all the young guys. I talked to James, I talked to Kawhi [Leonard], and I’m even more excited about what I think we have a chance to do.”

Only time will tell whether the Clippers can be truly competitive during the upcoming season. The Western Conference will be highly competitive, with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets also making some significant additions to their squads this summer.
