Clippers plan to use Kawhi Leonard like Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan

Doc Rivers is now with the Philadelphia 76ers. As a result new Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue is taking a different approach with superstar Kawhi Leonard.

The Los Angeles Clippers are starting fresh heading into the 2020-21 season after their epic collapse in the NBA bubble. The Clippers must bounce back from losing to the Denver Nuggets, blowing a 3-1 playoff series lead.

Lue plans to draw inspiration from his former coach Phil Jackson by using Kawhi Leonard in the triangle in the same way Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan were used, via ESPN.

“We have put in two or three sets from the triangle and let Kawhi play in those spaces where Kobe and Jordan played in those spots as well,” said Lue, who played for Phil Jackson, where he learned the triangle. “[Leonard] loves those two players. He really respects and looks up to those guys, so we’re just trying to put him in positions [to succeed]. I was able to play with both those guys, but I also played in the triangle, so just trying to teach him that as well as teaching our team as well.”

There’s no doubt the Clippers are a talented team on both ends of the floor. They have the chance to rebound with a vengeance during this upcoming NBA season.

However, it remains to be seen whether the triangle offense will work for Leonard. Especially in an era that has changed so much since the days of Jackson’s dominance with the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls.

The Clippers will be one of the teams put under the microscope this season as there no telling if the Kawhi experiment will work long term or was just a flash in the pan.
