Cooper Flagg ‘blessed’ to be with the Mavs

After making one of the most shocking moves in NBA history by trading superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks found themselves in a difficult situation, having to justify trading their face of the franchise and showing that they had a plan for the immediate future.

Even though things didn’t look good initially, despite being led by Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving, moving forward, the Mavs miraculously won the NBA Draft Lottery, putting them in a position to bring in Duke star Cooper Flagg.

As expected, the Mavs drafted Flagg No. 1 overall, and he feels blessed to have the opportunity to be in a unique situation in Dallas, via ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

“A lot of people in this position or this situation aren’t granted this opportunity, so I just feel really blessed and grateful for the situation I’ve been given,” Flagg said Friday during his introductory press conference at the Mavericks’ practice facility. “I’m just looking forward to being a sponge. Just getting down here, I’m excited to just learn, soak it all in and learn from the guys that are older and have been through it all before.

“Those guys have so much knowledge. They’ve been through so much, and they have so much experience that it’s just going to be an incredible opportunity for me to learn and grow under them.”

Although the Western Conference is stacked from top to bottom, the Mavs could make some noise if Flagg turns out to be the real deal playing alongside Davis, Irving and Klay Thompson.
