Draymond Green and Drake Have Words Following NBA Finals Game 1

Draymond Green has played down the incident between him and Drake after Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Prior to the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors Game 1 of the NBA Finals Thursday, commissioner Adam Silver spoke about why the NBA had talked with Toronto fan rapper Drake about the way he acted while on the sideline during Toronto’s Eastern Conference finals.

Silver said the league spoke directly to Drake and the rapper’s manager and the conversation ended in a good place.

However, when the Warriors Draymond Green was walking off the court following his team’s 118-109 loss in Game 1, there was no evidence that Draymond Green and Drake were also in a good place. Draymond Green had a few words for Drake and the rapper came up with a few for Green as well.

When asked about what happened, Green said he did not agree with the incident being characterized as a scuffle. The Warriors forward added that it was not a scuffle since the two did not push or hit one another. Green said the two talked and barked a bit.

Drake’s antics during the Eastern Conference Finals Game 4 between the Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks drew attention when he grabbed the shoulder of Toronto coach Nick Nurse during the game.

The Rapper’s approach was much more reserved during Thursday’s Game 1. He arrived for the game wearing a Toronto No. 30 jersey of Dell Curry, the father of Stephen Curry. The elder Curry ended his NBA career playing his final three seasons with the Raptors between 1999 and 2002.

While a middle school student, Stephen Curry lived in Toronto for 18 months when his father was a member of the Raptors. During a break in play on Thursday late in the first quarter Curry and Drake had a quick friendly exchange before the Golden State guard returned to the Warriors bench.

The conversation following the game between Curry’s teammate Green and the rapper did not appear to be as friendly.
