Draymond Green chimes in on Victor Wembanyama MVP case

San Antonio Spurs superstar big man Victor Wembanyama made things a little bit more interesting when it comes to the race for the NBA MVP, making some bold comments about why he should be the player to win the regular-season award.

Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors, who never shies away from reacting to things like this, shared his thoughts on what Wembanyama said about his MVP case, via ESPN.

“Wemby said, ‘Defense is 50% of the game,’ and it was like, oh, no one realized that?” Green said. “No one realized that 50% of the game we play is on that end of the floor?”

Green is about as controversial as professional athletes come these days, as he is not afraid to speak his mind, regardless of the flak he gets from the media or NBA fans.

The one-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year gave Wembanyama credit for the bold statement about the MVP race and how it might help him out with the voters.

“I tip my cap to Wemby for being willing to sit up there on that platform and say, ‘This is why,'” Green said. “Not hide from the question. Not just assume they’ll figure it out. No, they won’t. I’m happy he’s smart enough to know they won’t figure it out. You don’t help them see it, damn it they can’t see.”

As of right now, it seems to come down to Wembanyama, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic for the regular-season award, with the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar being the favorite in the final stretch of the 2025-26 campaign.
