Draymond Green Sends Strong Message on Steve Kerr’s Warriors Future

Uncertainty surrounds Steve Kerr’s future as Golden State Warriors head coach this offseason.

All that has transpired has prompted Draymond Green to openly state that he believes Kerr has coached his last game for the Warriors.

“I hope he’s our coach next season,” Green said on his podcast, The Draymond Green Show. “You want my opinion? I think not. Just because it feels like that. It felt like that was it.”

There has yet to be any clarity on the situation, but Green’s remarks do hold weight as he has spent the last 12 seasons alongside two-time league MVP Stephen Curry under Kerr’s helm.

Kerr said he will take the next week or two to decide his coaching future, while there has been no update on his situation over the past weekend.

That said, Kerr did drop some tea leaves after the Warriors were eliminated from the play-in tournament on Friday night against the Phoenix Suns for the eighth seed.

“I still love coaching, but I get it,” Kerr said late Friday night in Phoenix via ESPN. “These jobs all have an expiration date. There is a run that happens, and when the run ends, sometimes it’s time for new blood and new ideas.”

The door is clearly open for Kerr to return to the Warriors next season if he desires, but it’s the bigger picture of committing himself to another campaign.

The 2026-27 season holds much weight as Curry will be heading into the final year of his current contract, and there is interest in working out an extension over the summer. Meanwhile, Green has a one-year, $27.6 million player option.

Once Kerr makes his decision, it will set everything in motion for Golden State’s offseason plans.
