Giannis Antetokounmpo Reveals What Immediately Stood Out About Joining Heat

It didn’t take much for star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo to set a high bar of expectations for his next NBA stop with the Miami Heat.

During his introductory press conference on Thursday, the two-time league MVP explained what drove him heading into his first campaign with the Heat.

“It’s at like a million percent right now,” Antetokounmpo told ESPN. “You walk through the hallways and you see the history and you see the players that have been a part of this organization and things that they’ve done. I want to make all the moves that they’ve made worth it.

“It’s a place I feel like brings pressure, and I thrive under pressure. It brings the best out of me. I’m excited to be coached by [Erik Spoelstra]. I’m excited to be around the city. I understand the fans are very passionate, but right now, I’m hungry to win. I want to win, and I will do whatever it takes for me to win.”

The Heat have moved all in to land Antetokounmpo in a blockbuster trade that sent Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round selections, one pick swap, and a second-round pick to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis.

Miami is hoping the revamped roster, centered around Antetokounmpo and star big man Bam Adebayo, can be the foundation for what pushes toward NBA title contention.

The Heat are eyeing another big splash, with LeBron James remaining an option in free agency, which could put the franchise in a stronger position as a major factor in the Eastern Conference next season.

Nonetheless, the Heat have a highly motivated Antetokounmpo to lead the charge toward competing for an NBA title.
