Joel Embiid jumps ahead of Nikola Jokic in NBA MVP odds

As the regular season nears a close, the NBA MVP award race continues to heat up.

Much of which lies on the budding positioning for the prestigious honor seemingly between Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid, Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic, and Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo. The 76ers’ recent surge behind Embiid’s stellar play has pushed him ahead of Jokic as the favorite.

“Money dictates price, and clients have been betting Embiid,” Kevin Lawler, head of trading for PoinstBet, said via ESPN. “Time will tell if they are right.”

Embiid has taken his play up another notch to guide him toward being the odds-on favorite ahead of Jokic. The Nuggets star has continued to dominate. However his team’s recent skid, losing five out of the six games has affected his odds.

Denver is still atop of the Western Conference standings, but the Kings and Grizzlies trail by just 3.5 games. Meanwhile, Embiid has continued to light it up as the key component to the 76ers’ rise in the Eastern Conference, winning their last eight games, putting them only two games back of the top-seeded Bucks for the top spot.

Embiid’s recent play has been nothing short of impressive which is highlighted by a franchise-record nine straight 30-point performances. He has been the primary piece pushing the 76ers toward potentially securing the top overall seed in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

All that pushes the focus toward what will be a thrilling close to the regular season with the MVP award hanging in the balance.
