Jonathan Kuminga Finally Makes Decision, Signs With Timberwolves
After spending several weeks in free agency, forward Jonathan Kuminga finally has a new NBA home as he agreed to a two-year, $12.4 million deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The contract includes a player option for the second year that could allow him to hit the open market again next offseason.
Kuminga reportedly chose the Timberwolves’ deal over offers from the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, and Portland Trail Blazers. He had an option on the table from the Lakers: a sign-and-trade scenario with around $12 million annually over three years.
Instead, he chose to sign with the Timberwolves to a similar significant role while keeping the option to earn a more lucrative deal in free agency next offseason if he proves worth a much larger contract.
Kuminga is coming off another productive campaign that saw him help the Atlanta Hawks earn the sixth seed in the East by averaging 13.7 points on 47.6 percent shooting from the floor and 34.6 percent from beyond the arc in 16 games with one start in 22.1 minutes per game.
He hit the free agent market after the Hawks declined his $24.3 million team option in late June.

Kuminga is joining a revamped Minnesota team looking to take the next step into championship contention next season. He will take the floor alongside stars Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball, as well as Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert.
The Timberwolves are coming off reaching the second round of the playoffs after making consecutive Western Conference Finals appearances.
