Kevin Durant ‘shocked’ by Nets firing head coach Steve Nash

The Brooklyn Nets are off to a shaky start to begin the 2022-23 season, which has become a bit more unstable.

Before the Nets’ loss on Tuesday night to the Chicago Bulls, the team elected to part ways with head coach Steve Nash. Despite it being so early in the season, Brooklyn chose to move on from Nash after the team fell to a 2-5 record.

The decision to much surprise for star forward Kevin Durant, who revealed he learned about the news after watching it on TV after he awoke from an afternoon nap.

“You’re always shocked when a move like this happens,” Durant said via ESPN. “But it’s normal in the NBA. It’s about getting ready for the game tonight. It’s a quick turn always in the league, especially during the season. You’ve got practice, games coming up, so you can’t think too much about it. It was on my mind for a little bit today.”

Durant’s lack of involvement in the move comes as some surprise, given his importance to the franchise’s future. Keep in mind he had voiced a strong desire to be traded over this past offseason.

The Nets hold strong aspirations for NBA title contention, which led to the swift move. Brooklyn hasn’t played anywhere near a playoff-caliber team with their struggles defensively, while Ben Simmons has been an almost non-factor.

In light of the move, the Nets are reportedly moving quickly to find their next head coach, with Ime Udoka in line to fill the vacant position.
